WE CAN MEET OUR TAXES

At certain seasons of the year many of us seem to be confronted with the serious problem of meeting various taxes. As students of Christian Science we find at such times a challenge to go forward in our thinking—to apply our God-given understanding pertaining to the source of all good, which we know to be true substance, Spirit.

Christ Jesus had no difficulty in meeting his tax obligations, 'l he example of the Master should fully and completely set a precedent for our way of living, that of relying on Spirit, Mind, to guide men and to offset error's suggestions of insufficiency or lack. As recorded in Scripture, Jesus said to Peter (Matt. 17:27), "Go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee." There is great satisfaction in realizing that God directs and opens the storehouse of abundance for all who realize His unchanging wisdom and love. Does not everyone rest more peaceably when he is assured of sufficiency to meet human demands?

Someone may say at this point, "Yes, this all seems so simple, but the 'fish's mouth' concept just doesn't apply in my case."' To believe that in some way one is lacking in substance is to believe a lie about God—that He did not make all or make it good, as the Bible states. Such a misconception of man's inheritance attempts to give evil reality. Indeed, it must be seen that human reasoning and planning, when based on a false sense of incompleteness, insecurity, fear, are inadequate. In reality God's ideas are complete. There are no shortages in Mind's creation. Man, the child of God, has by inheritance all that the Father has.
