THE HIGH GOAL

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

At this time the youth who is designated a teen-ager is getting a great deal of attention from parents, educators, and law-enforcement officers, who honestly wish to help him through this period which is called adolescence. On every hand we hear of young people who feel insecure and confused by world conditions, which seem to affect their lives vitally. Because of years which must he spent in military service, they must delay their careers and see their hopes and ambitions thwarted.

No teen-ager who is a Christian Scientist need ever feel aimless or unimportant. He need not feel that he is searching for a goal or purpose which can be attained only after years of academic study or military service. Every Christian Scientist has a goal which was given him by Christ Jesus. He may start working toward it right now and continue to find fulfillment, no matter where his field of material activity lies. The goal is part of the copyrighted seal on all the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. It reads: "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons." This statement is based on the words which Jesus gave to his disciples when he sent them out on their missionary work.

That goal was further amplified by our beloved Leader. She writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 37), "It is possible.—yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman,—to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness."
