With joy I can testify to the healing power of the Word as taught in Christian Science. While the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly was being read at a Sunday morning church service in 1928, I was healed of despair and hopelessness, brought on by a nervous breakdown.

I had not gone to the service expecting to be healed, but to please a friend who invited me. My background was one of a strict orthodox religion and materia medica. I had spent much time and money in a well-known medical clinic, only to be told there was no help for me.

As the service progressed that Sunday morning this thought came to me: "You will never need a doctor again." I was so sure this was true that I went home and disposed of a bushel basket filled with medical remedies I had used all my life. The power of the Word had so illumined my consciousness that I felt as though I were walking on air.
