Facts Concerning Air-borne Copies of the Monitor
Air-borne copies of The Christian Science Monitor now reach subscribers in almost every part of the world within five to seven days of publication. Subscribers in a number of countries pay from $250 to $450 a year to receive the Monitor by air. At these rates the subscriber pays as high as $1.50 a copy for the same paper which costs most readers only five cents.
Among those who receive the Monitor by first-class airmail are diplomats in various countries, newspaper editors, business executives, schools, and colleges.
In such places as New Zealand, Australia, Sumatra, Singapore, Greece, France, Germany, and the British Isles, airmail subscribers usually share airmail copies with neighbors and then place them in schools or libraries. In Sumatra, for example, a subscriber airmails individual copies of his air-borne subscription to other readers in the Far East hundreds of miles away.
Many overseas subscribers, especially men and women in the armed services, receive their copies of the Monitor by air through Army and Fleet Post Offices. Although APO and FPO subscribers may be on the opposite side of the world, they pay only the regular domestic airmail rate of $6.60 a month to get the Monitor by air.
Each day several hundred copies of the Monitor go by air freight to London, and by air express to California. These copies are relayed to individual subscribers under a special air bulk rate.
Today there are many new afternoon flights from Boston, Massachusetts, to various cities in the West and Midwest. Same day delivery of the Monitor is now available at airports in approximately twenty-five leading cities throughout the United States. Air express and air freight delivery now make same day sale of the Monitor possible in Christian Science Reading Rooms many hundreds of miles from Boston.
Testifier Blessed by Sharing Healing
A testifier writes: "Thank you for publishing my testimony in the Sentinel and for forwarding the letters sent to me about it. There have been many more besides ... and still they keep coming. They are from all over the country and from England, and now one from Australia. When I think that my testimony is only one of the many which are reaching 'the uttermost part of the earth' through our periodicals, I realize how much of good is going around the world.
"In receiving and answering these letters, I am reminded again and again of the wonderful truths of Christian Science, which gave me courage and raised my thought above self-pity, fear, and the like, and which brought progress and my complete healing. This is one of the added blessings that I had not expected. ... How wonderful it is that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave us not only Christian Science, but the privilege of sharing in the movement!"
Increase of Newcomers at Our Lectures
It is encouraging to note that recent reports from branch churches show an increase of newcomers and of local residents at our lectures wherever they are given. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 570 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences."
