EMPHASIZE HARMONY

Christian Science is the great harmonizer of mankind. Its purpose is to reveal the presence and power of the Christ. This divine influence takes away the sins and discords of the world and replaces them with health, joy, and harmony. The mission of Christian Science is the same as that of Jesus, who said to his disciples, and, infact, to all men (John 14:27): "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. ... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

In an impressive address on the subject of obedience Mary Baker Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 116), "This question, ever nearest to my heart, is to-day uppermost: Are we filling the measures of life's music aright, emphasizing its grand strains, swelling the harmony of being with tones whence come glad echoes?" Because of the very nature of his religion, the work of a Christian Scientist is that of a harmonizer. It is therefore important for each one of us to ask himself frequently, "Am I emphasizing harmony in my daily living?"

The basis for the emphasis of harmony in our lives is the recognition and demonstration of the fact of man's complete unity with God, divine Love. Our Leader tells us that we should not deny the harmony of being merely because the testimony of the material senses reports discord. Our work is to rely constantly on the testimony of Spirit and the spiritual senses. And this testimony always emphasizes the fact of the spiritual nature of the universe and the eternally harmonious relationship of God and His idea.
