[Original testimony in French]

More than twenty-five years ago...

More than twenty-five years ago when the doctors gave the verdict that my mother could live but a short time, Christian Science was presented to her by a stranger. This person could not speak French, my mother's language, but the brought my mother a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition). This was my mother's first step toward freedom in nine years of semi-invalidism. She asked to be taken out of the hospital immediately. Then she obtained a Bible and a French translation of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She responded quickly to the truth through her own study and was soon entirely healed and able to resume her normal activities.

One morning I awoke with symptoms of a disease. I had a very busy day awaiting me, and I knew I had to leave the house early. Turning my thoughts completely away from the body, I began the study of the Lesson-Sermon for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly. I rejoiced in knowing that the healing was taking place and that nothing but the truth could be seen or manifested.

I dressed myself to go out as planned, but suddenly a sense of extreme weakness manifested itself, and fear suggested that I had better stay home. I turned thought entirely to God, knowing that He is the source of all good and that my present need was already met. A passage from the textbook came to me (p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." I knew this was true, and a sense of confidence and peace flooded my consciousness. I left the house and was able to complete all my work for that day. That evening I was completely free and was at my post in church as an usher.
