I took up Christian Science as a last resort when the physicians said that I had only a few days to live. An operation had resulted in adhesions that continued to drain and obstructed bowel movements. I was suffering from stomach ulcers, and in addition, I had had to wear a truss for seven years. A neighbor offered me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I took it and read it. In three days I felt better. She told me to continue my reading, and as I did so, the physical difficulties were all healed. That was over fifty years ago, and there has been no return of them.

Some time after my healing I joined The Mother Church and a branch church, where I taught in the Sunday School. Following a move to another city, I joined the branch church there and became First Reader. One evening as I was about to go home, I felt a sudden sense of confusion, as though I was about to lose consciousness. I knew that the real man's consciousness is never lost or confused, and I declared God's ever-presence. I did not fall but stood firmly on my feet; as I did so, the condition left me, and it did not return.

When I walked out on the street, I saw the bus which I expected to take home; so I started to cross the street. Just then the signal light changed, and an automobile came speeding by. I saw it only as something dark, but I felt a light touch on my nose and on one knee, and my coat blew in the wind as the car whizzed by. I was not injured in any way, and I was not excited, for I knew that God was my Life, my protection, and my All. I am so grateful for the protection that comes to us when we do our prayerful work and know the nothingness of all evil.—(Miss) Mary E. Jones, New York, New York.
