While I was operating a small...

While I was operating a small outboard motorboat on a good sized lake near our home, a sudden wind arose. There were four adults in the boat, all students of Christian Science, and a small boy. The boat rapidly filled with water, and as I tried to head it toward shore it tipped over. We were nearly half a mile from land, the waves were high, the water was very cold, and there was no other boat or person to be seen.

We all succeeded in getting back to the overturned boat, and we clung to it. There was no panic and no confusion. We silently tried to realize the truths we had learned in our study of Christian Science. Then a boat suddenly appeared, coming toward us at high speed. The owner had been speeding for shore in the distance when he glanced in our direction and saw our boat tip over. He then turned and came to our help. As he had other passengers and could not take us all, he took the little boy to shore first.

The rest of us were then quite numb with cold. Another boat came for us, a larger one, and with some difficulty we were removed from the water and taken to shore. After we were warm and had a change of clothes, we returned home. The next day we were at work as usual. The boat, motor, and oars were recovered. Our deliverance under these circumstances was a demonstration of God's ever-presence and all-power.

In raising a family of five children, we have found that Christian Science has given us a conviction of peace and security, even during the years of World War II, when our boys were in service. No medicine is in our cabinets. For almost forty years I have not tasted it.

For the inspiration furnished by practitioners and other students of Christian Science, for class instruction, and for the endless promise and fulfillment found in Christian Science, I am very grateful.— Howard W. Anderson, Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

I wish to confirm my husband's testimony. When we went overboard I thought of these words from a loved hymn (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 53):

Everlasting arms of Love
Are beneath, around, above.

When our fingers were almost too stiff to grasp the boat any longer, one of the group reminded us, "God is here." Each one was affirming the fact of God's ever-presence, audibly and silently. I am indeed grateful to the Father of all for our deliverance.—(Mrs.) Clara Benson Anderson.
