THE TRUE SOURCE OF STRENGTH

[Original article in German]

In our age when the interest in sports is on the increase, it is important to understand the true source of strength. The Olympic games, so popular today, had their origin in the Greek valley of Olympia, and no doubt the first Olympic contestants did not begin their competitive games until they had besought their gods for strength and protection. Therefore, we can easily conclude that the basic meaning of sport should be something noble and true.

Inspiration is needed to assure success in any field of endeavor. Reliance on physical strength is inadequate to protect us from the tricks which error claims to play on us. If the sportsman or player is not armed with the qualities of Spirit, such as energy, joy, calm, fearlessness, keenness, and so forth, he is at the mercy of all the vague suppositions of material circumstances. If he is a Christian Scientist, he knows wherein his true inspiration lies and where his source of strength is to be found.

Through the study of Christian Science the student has learned that God is this source, and that man, as God's pure reflection, receives what he needs from God. He also knows that his strength is inexhaustible and that he cannot be separated from strength any more than man can be separated from his creator.
