My acquaintance with Christian Science...

My acquaintance with Christian Science began in the year 1918, when our family was called to the bedside of a very dear friend. The doctor had pronounced the case an incurable heart condition and had said to expect the end very shortly. On hearing of the condition, a neighbor left a Sentinel after marking a specific testimony for reading. This was read to our friend three times and led to her asking for help from a Christian Science practitioner. In a few days our friend was well, and we had the joy of her companionship for thirty four years after this healing.

Some few years later I was suffering from a very painful skin trouble, and at the earnest request of this friend I attended a service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and afterwards asked for help from a practitioner. It was lovingly given, and that night I had an unbroken sleep, the first in almost two years. Through continued treatment the skin trouble was fully overcome.

In my early youth I suffered a crushed shoulder and broken collar bone. This left a condition which periodically caused me much suffering. My neck would be stiff, and every movement of my arm would be very painful. One day, shortly after taking up the study of Christian Science, upon arrival at my place of business I had a very severe attack of this condition. I could move neither my neck nor my right arm. When I lifted my thought to God, as I was learning to do in Christian Science, these words came to me: "God the Only Cause and Creator." This was the title of that week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, which I had read before leaving home, and I realized that it was a message from God. I reasoned. "If God is the only creator and God is Love, as the Bible declares, then Love is the only creator, and this painful condition could never have been created and does not exist." I held to this truth for about ten minutes, when I found myself free. That was over twenty-five years ago, and the condition has never returned.

An instantaneous healing in our home is cause for sincere gratitude. While doing the washing my wife accidentally got her hand in the roller of the electric washing machine. By the time I had disconnected the power and released the rollers the hand looked seriously hurt. Wrapping it in a towel, we both began working as we have been taught in Christian Science. That morning we had read the lesson from the Quarterly on the subject of "Man." The Golden Text was from Genesis (1:26), "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness," and one section read in part (Gen. 1:27), "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." These truths were voiced and held to. Within half an hour my wife was back at the washing, and by lunch time all evidence of the accident had vanished.

Is there any wonder that I feel profoundly grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for providing us with that invaluable weekly Lesson-Sermon, which supplies us with daily manna and enables us to solve the problems which present themselves? Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for all the provisions that she has made for our advancement from sense to Soul, including her writings, our periodicals, our lectures, and class instruction.— Sydney Cutt, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
