THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

A professor of mechanics in a certain college found it amusing to open his course by asking the students to define the center of the universe. The answers were generally varied: the sun, the earth, and so on. The professor would finally say, "Each of you is the center of his universe." In a certain sense this opinion seems to sway human thinking. The individual often feels that the universe revolves around him for his special benefit, or else he chafes when it does not seem to do so. And because there are many who are bound by self-interest, inevitable personal clashes result.

The cure for self-centeredness is found in Christian Science, which corrects human fallacies with spiritual facts. This Science reveals God as one all-embracing Mind, the sole center and source of a universe of spiritual ideas. This knowledge turns one's thought from self to God, from self-love to the fact that God is infinite Love. It leads one to become as interested in the welfare of others as in his own good and to strive to demonstrate God's love and care for all.

Nothing is more valuable to one's spiritual progress than the understanding of God as the starting point, the creative Principle of all reality. Humanity needs to learn that man and the universe emanate from this one source and exist only to manifest the glory of the central light of being—divine Mind.
