RENDING ASUNDER THE FETTERS

The month of February brings to the thought of many a deep appreciation of the work of two famous men, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Both of these men are honored for their accomplishments in support of the rights of individuals and nations. Today millions are still being held in physical and mental bondage because of false concepts of God and man. To such, Christian Science offers the sure way of escape into the realm of freedom—mental, moral, and physical.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 226): "Human codes, scholastic theology, material medicine and hygiene, fetter faith and spiritual understanding. Divine Science rends asunder these fetters, and man's birthright of sole allegiance to his Maker asserts itself."

Christian Science rends asunder the fetters of all slavery through the true understanding of God as divine Love. For centuries men have claimed that God is Love, but they have generally failed to understand the meaning of this great pronouncement. The Apostle John said (I John 4:20), "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" John concluded. "And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also." This commandment was exemplified to the highest degree by our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, during his entire career.
