SPIRITUAL REALITY

An interesting aspect of the study of Christian Science lies in its use of words in their exact meaning. Mary Baker Eddy used words with amazing exactness and never left any doubt as to what she meant.

One such word is "spiritual." It is not uncommon in the world today for this word to be applied to even the human phases of religious activity and still more often to that which is moral rather than spiritual. To understand Christian Science it is essential that one make a clear distinction between the words "moral" and "spiritual." It is not unusual for a student to have at times some difficulty in his understanding and demonstration of Christian Science because of lack of discrimination between that which is moral and that which is spiritual.

Now, according to a dictionary, "spiritual" means "not material; incorporeal;" also "pure, holy; divine," and a synonym is "unworldly." "Moral" is "conforming to a standard of what is good and right."
