MAN'S ETERNAL HARMONY

In Christian Science we learn that harmony is the natural state of man, made in the image of God. If harmony seems to be lacking in our experience, it may be that we are looking away from the creation which God saw and pronounced "very good." Also, we may be accepting the material sense of creation, which pictures man as created of the dust of the ground and embarked on a path of disobedience, fear, and punishment.

All suffering, sorrow, tragedy, and death stem from mankind's ignorant or, in some cases, willful acceptance of the material view of creation. As long as the belief continues that existence is mortal and material, just so long will harmony seem a will-o'-the-wisp.

The Bible teaches that God is Spirit. Thus man, God's image and likeness, must be spiritual, not material. Christian Science teaches that this spiritual man is the only real man and is the true selfhood of everyone everywhere. It teaches that this real man expresses all of God's qualities, including freedom, joy, harmony, and completeness; in fact, man cannot express anything but that which is "very good." It also declares that this fact can be proved in our present experience.
