RANDY REMEMBERS

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Randy was in the third grade. The children were studying about transportation. Randy had made a truck, and this was the day that he was going to paint it. He could hardly wait to get to school.

Mother called Randy to breakfast, and while he ate she read to him a part of that week's Lesson-sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. She read from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Randy went to the Christian Science Sunday School every Sunday, and he loved to hear his mother read from these two books which they studied in Sunday School. This week the Bible Lesson was on Love, and Randy knew that was just another name for God. That morning Randy liked especially the part of the Golden Text which said (Ps. 145: 9), "The Lord is good to all."

When Randy's mother read the part from the Christian Science textbook where Mrs. Eddy says (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," Randy stopped eating and said: "Oh, Mother, that's it. That's the part our Sunday School teacher told us about last Sunday. She showed us all the words in the gold letters on our Sunday School wall. Then she said we'd find those very same words in our Lesson-Sermon for next Sunday. And here they are!"

Mother said, "Yes, Randy; they are beautiful words, and true too. And you must always remember them."

Randy got his lunch, which Mother had packed in his little red box, and as he ran out the door he called, "'Bye! I'll remember."

Randy had a little friend whose name was Tommy. Tommy was in Randy's room, and he had made a truck too. The boys were going to paint their trucks right after recess, and they could hardly wait.

Just before recess the school nurse came in to look at all the children, as she did every Monday. She told the teacher that Tommy had spots on his hands and arms and that he would have to go home.

Randy thought of the trucks they were going to paint right after recess, and he felt very sorry that Tommy wouldn't be there to paint his. Then Randy thought about what his mother had read that morning, "The Lord is good to all," and he knew that nothing but good could come to Tommy. Randy remembered too the words in gold letters on the Sunday School wall, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." And he knew Tommy's needs were met too.

After recess the principal called all the children to the auditorium to show them a film about the right way to cross the busy streets safely. That took so much time that Randy's teacher told the children they would have to wait until after lunch to paint their trucks.

Randy was very happy, and he told the teacher he was sure Tommy would be back in the afternoon. The teacher smiled, but said Tommy might not be back for several days. Randy again remembered the words which his mother had read that morning, and he said them again to himself.

At noontime, just as the children were excused from the lunch benches, Randy saw Tommy coming across the playground with a note in his hand and a big smile on his face. Randy ran to meet him and said, "Oh, I knew you'd come back this afternoon, and now we can paint our trucks together."

Tommy said his mother had taken him to see their doctor and he had said: "Whatever the school nurse saw, surely isn't here now. This boy is just perfect, and he can go right back to school." So the doctor wrote a note to the principal telling her Tommy was all right to return to school.

Randy and Tommy had such a nice time painting their trucks, and Tommy said he was so glad he could come back to school right away. Randy told Mother about Tommy as soon as he got home that afternoon. Then Mother and Randy both thanked God that Randy had remembered the truth he had learned in the Christian Science Sunday School.
