RECOGNIZING MAN'S TRUE INHERITANCE

The gradations of human belief which mankind entertain are many. Similar to the beliefs of material evolution are those of psychology and other so-called mental sciences which attempt to explain the origin and development of matter and mortal mind. They reason from material effect to material cause; and mortality is their consequent eventuality. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 551), "Evolution describes the gradations of human belief, but it does not acknowledge the method of divine Mind, nor see that material methods are impossible in divine Science and that all Science is of God, not of man."

The life of Christ Jesus gives us conclusive evidence that "all Science is of God, not of man." His birth repudiated human generation. Mrs. Eddy says of it (ibid., p. 29): "The illumination of Mary's spiritual sense put to silence material law and its order of generation, and brought forth her child by the revelation of Truth, demonstrating God as the Father of men." At the age of twelve Jesus' understanding, evidenced by his questions and answers to the doctors in the temple at Jerusalem, astonished his hearers. Mortal mind psychology would not admit that a child of that age could be so advanced in wisdom and understanding.

Later, after his ministry of healing and proof that his mighty deeds were scientifically natural, Jesus wrought existence beyond the stages that material evolution permits and showed the great possibilities of immortal being. Material science finishes its story of man and closes its pages when matter ceases to pulsate. But the master Scientist, ever conscious of Life, God, unconfined and eternal, relied on divine strength to support him. He rested in the consciousness of Soul, Spirit, while his material body was buried in a sepulcher. The law of eternal Life ruled the hour, and our Master stepped forth as our resurrected Saviour. Shortly afterwards the evidence of spiritual power was even greater, and the risen Saviour, the eternal Christ, was seen to be the ultimate in the Science of creation.
