YIELD NOT TO DISCOURAGEMENT

Today many people are helplessly and needlessly suffering from the effects of self-pity and discouragement. Difficulties in home, business, church, and world affairs cause untold misery, both mental and physical. Yet the same power which enabled Jesus to lift men from the bondage of human ills, despair, and discouragement is here today. It is the power of the Christ, as revealed in Christian Science.

In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes of man equipped with this divine power (p. 518): "His birthright is dominion, not subjection. He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven,— himself subordinate alone to his Maker."

Let us accept this true account of man's divine dominion and inheritance as the son of God. Let us recognize the fact that our God and creator is divine Mind—the only Mind, and therefore the Mind of every one of us. Since this Mind is good, perfect, and unerring, man can never be subject to despair, depression, or discouragement. Our work is to acknowledge and prove these facts consistently in our daily living.
