GROWTH

With nature's bud we do not interfere.
We do not touch the petals, lest we sear
or hurt a small thing, infinitely dear.

Nor must we touch God's spiritual child
with thought of mortal false belief defiled,
or by mistaken sense of care beguiled.

We stand aside and watch the bud unfold
in God's own way, His patient way of old,
like a sweet story, beautifully told.
