"We have known and believed the love that God hath to us" (I John 4:16). I did not know or believe that there could be such love until I learned in Christian Science that God is Love and Love is God.

For many years Christianity seemed illogical to me. I was born into a Christian home where prayer was natural, yet as time went on life grew more and more baffling. Illness, disappointment, death, in fact all discord, was accepted with the explanation, "It is God's will, dear, and you must be patient."

Nevertheless, I prayed on and sincerely studied my Bible, as well as books on Christian and comparative religions, until I was completely frustrated. Then I gave up my religious studies, ceased regular attendance at church, and quit plasing any reliance on prayer. The dollmaker had mended my childhood doll, the watchmaker my watch, the car maker my car, but my Maker seemed unable to mend me or to guide my affairs without the aid of some human agency such as a surgical operation, changed circumstances, more money, personal influence, or academic education. To me this situation was somewhat puzzling.
