THE REWARD OF FIDELITY

In studying the parable of the talents, as given in the twenty-fifth chapter of Matthew's Gospel, we discern the importance of being faithful in utilizing the spiritual understanding that we have already gained, as a necessary prelude to a deeper understanding and demonstration of Truth.

The servants in the parable had not all attained the same stage of progress; therefore they were given varying sums to use for gain according to their several abilities. From the one who was given the greatest amount, most was expected in return; from those who received lesser sums, less was demanded. But each one who had been faithful to the trust reposed in him received the same benediction from his lord: "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

The one servant who neglected to make the best of his single talent lost even that which he had. We must put into practice what we have gained of the truth, or we may lose the little understanding we have already attained. We are all in different states and stages of progress; yet in the degree that we are faithful we shall receive the same blessing—increased spiritual understanding and the joy which comes through experiencing scientific demonstration.
