LEADER BELOVED

Alone you stood
Through bitter wrong—
The silent conflict
Of a heart
In lone Gethsemane.
And when the first
Faint star appeared
Across the night—
A beaconed way
That led to Calvary—
You followed through
And reached God's throne
Of grace.
Then through your pure
And chastened heart
The light appeared,
To heal and save.
Thus was the Way
Revealed anew—
The promised Comforter—
The Christ as Truth,
And God as All-in-all,
The perfect One,
And man His son.
