RADIO PROGRAM No. 37 - Grief Can Be Healed

On this program Mrs. Elizabeth H. Eames of Winterport, Maine, told of her own experience, as follows:

Just a few days before the end of the war with Japan, my husband and I were notified of the loss of our son through the torpedoing of his ship. The telegram from the Navy Department requested us to make no mention of the event for the time being. So we told no one except a Christian Science practitioner, whom we asked for support through prayer. The short interval of time proved to be a blessing, for it gave us time to affirm the spiritual facts that God is Life and that in his true selfhood man is immortal. We spent many hours reading the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. We prayed constantly, realizing that God, eternal Spirit, is unchangeable, and that His beloved son, man, is His image and likeness, as the Bible says, and therefore that man actually lives forever.

One sentence from Science and Health was my constant companion at this time. It reads (p. 427), "If it is true that man lives, this fact can never change in Science to the opposite belief that man dies." I resolved to meet every trial that came up during this experience from this standpoint.
