TRUE FRIENDSHIP

One of the most wonderful and comforting facts which Christianity teaches is that God, Love, is ever present and always ready to bless us. So it is that in the yearning for friendship, which is deep down in the human heart, God is here to bless us and to answer our prayer.

Nearly everyone at some time has realized the value of a friend, and many have at times wondered how the need for one could be supplied. Perhaps, in setting out to find a friend, one has let material considerations alone govern the choice. To choose one's friends from such a basis, however, is like building one's house on the sand. Sooner or later, when one is going through storms or testing times, such friendship breaks. Why is this, and how can we be sure of making lasting friendship?

Because true love is a spiritual quality, it is derived from Mind, God. Therefore we have to express it in our thinking if we would experience true friendship. Christian Science reveals to us the rock upon which the foundation of every friendship should rest. The Bible has stated it in many differing ways. Here is one which we should thoughtfully consider (Ps. 127:1): "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." We can be sure, therefore, that it is necessary for us to turn first of all to God.
