When I had to leave my home in East Germany and take refuge in West Germany, I had never even heard of Christian Science. I was suffering from an internal hemorrhage. After studying an X-ray picture of the condition, the doctor to whom I had gone for treatment paced up and down the room. Taking this as a bad omen, I asked him if he could not help me. Reluctantly he replied, "I cannot help you." He did not prescribe any medicine or offer any advice. Although my condition continued to grow worse, I did not do anything further to find relief. I just carried on from day to day, expecting to die. Then my neighbor told me about Christian Science and of healings brought about through it. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to visit me. After her first visit the bleeding ceased, and it never recurred.

I am sincerely grateful to our heavenly Father for this healing. It has shown me that Christian Science is the truth. Since that time I have studied the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I attend regularly the Sunday meetings here, where the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly is read to a small group. The whole week I look forward to this reading. Without Science, life would seem futile to me. Now I have found happiness.

I am grateful to God for sending us Mrs. Eddy, who followed Christ Jesus' example of faithfulness to God and love for man and who has taught us that through the spiritual understanding of the Bible all good is ever at hand for us.
