RADIO PROGRAM No. 33A - Even in an Earthquake You Can Trust God's Law

On this program Miss M. Primrose Kent of London, England, told of her own experience, as follows:

I was in Quetta, India, when an earthquake occurred in the middle of the night. I was asleep in bed when suddenly the building I was in collapsed completely like a pack of cards and I found myself buried. I had not been a student of Christian Science for long, but I knew that statements of divine Truth protect and heal. So I began prayerfully to repeat "the scientific statement of being," which I knew by heart. It is one of Mary Baker Eddy's most familiar statements in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 468). I also thought of God's great love for His creation and realized that there was no intelligence or ability to harm or destroy in the bricks and stones all about me.

I was grateful that my head was quite free, although the rest of my body up to the neck was deeply buried, and I could not move at all. There was an enormous weight on both my legs, and at first this weight was very painful; but as I continued to think prayerfully of the truths of God and realize my true relationship to Him, the pain ceased. I lay five hours like this. Once the light from someone searching appeared, and I called out, but was not heard. This made me cry out in rather a frightened way, but my own voice frightened me so much that I stopped calling and began singing one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, which begins "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power" (Poems, p. 4). As I turned to God in this way, I gained a positive awareness of His nearness and protection, and was much comforted.
