I am profoundly grateful to God...

I am profoundly grateful to God for Christian Science, which has entirely changed my outlook on life and brought me true satisfaction. In "Rudimental Divine Science" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 9), "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases." The truth of this was proved to me very early in my study of Christian Science by an experience which has remained an inspiration.

I went to visit an aunt, a very elderly woman, while her companion went out. On arrival I was told that she was "starting to have one of her attacks," as it was expressed. These attacks, apparently of heart trouble, were considered alarming, and I reached out to God to know what to do. I felt no fear and promised to stay until the companion returned.

I found my aunt lying on the sofa, and seeing her Bible on the table, I asked if I should read to her. I was led to open it at the ninety-first Psalm, and I prayed that I might not only read the words, but really understand them. I became so absorbed in listening for the meaning that I completely forgot my surroundings. When I had finished, my aunt got up feeling quite well, and we spent the rest of the afternoon normally. She had no further attacks of the trouble.
