"LOVE'S RECOMPENSE OF LOVE"

Christian Science teaches its followers to acknowledge God as the source of all good. When this is done regularly and consistently in daily living, it brings to light the unlimited resources of Soul ever at hand for all to enjoy. Through the clear understanding that true substance is spiritual, Jesus naturally demonstrated the ability of divine Mind to supply his own needs, as well as the immediate needs of five thousand hungry people. As Christian Scientists grow in spiritual understanding they can demonstrate for themselves, and help others to demonstrate, the power of God to meet all human needs abundantly.

In the Old Testament we read that the priests who served in the temples were compensated through the tithes and offerings of the worshipers. Today, those who minister to the religious needs of the people through churches and church organizations are supported by the tithes and offerings of those who receive their ministrations. It is fiting, therefore, that public practitioners of Christian Science who devote all their time to the activity of helping others through the gospel of healing should receive adequate compensation from those whom they serve. The Apostle Paul said (I Cor. 9:13), "Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple?" And he added, "Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel."

The work of the Christian Science practitioner is based on the recognition that all good comes from God, Spirit. His primary duty is to pray that his consciousness may be such a clear transparency for the Christ, Truth, that he will become aware of the ever-presence and power of all-inclusive Spirit and its perfect spiritual creation. He heeds Paul's admonition (II Tim. 2:15), "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." This requires continual study of the Bible and our Leader's writings, and quiet periods of communion with God that consciousness may become purified and inspired by the Christ—the enlightening and healing power of God. Unless the practitioner takes the time to refresh and fill his own consciousness with new views of God and man, how can he expect to bless and help his fellow men and to receive the abundant rewards which come from progressive practice?
