Through the study of the Christian Science...

Through the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I learned to understand God. Before reading this book and gaining the spiritual interpretation of the Bible, I thought of God as a supreme power, but I never really understood Him further than that. Now I know that God is the only creator and that His universe is the only universe. God being All-in-all, as we learn in our textbook, it is clear that all is good, for God is good. We read in the first chapter of Genesis (verse 31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

Through an understanding of this allness of good I was quickly healed of a very severe attack of influenza. The illness came on me whilst I was helping to get ready a furnished house to be let. On going to my room one night I thought of the presence, power, and allness of God. I slept a little that night but awoke the next morning feeling ill. However, as I had an early appointment to keep and quite a distance to go by bus, I arose and prepared to go out. Just before I left the house I opened Science and Health to the following lines in the Preface (p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

The morning was cold and foggy, and I had to wait for the bus at a corner exposed to the cold winds. Knowing God's love and power, however, I felt no fear. I mentally declared that error, being untrue, is powerless; while good, being all, is real and powerful. Suddenly all discordant feeling left me. I cannot describe the wonder and joy of that instantaneous healing. I stopped waiting for the bus and walked the whole distance to keep my appointment, feeling as though I were walking on air. There were no further symptoms of the influenza.
