This testimony is given with deep gratitude for the healing and redeeming religion of Christian Science, which has led me into a new life and is an inexhaustible source of joy to me.

Many years ago, when my sister gave me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was suffering from severe buzzing in the ears and at times from partial deafness. This ear trouble had come upon me when I was a child, and all the medical help I had received had given me only temporary relief. Through studying the Bible and the textbook, the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and reading The Herald of Christian Science (German edition) I was little by little completely healed of this difficulty.

Since that time I have had many proofs, small and great, of God's healing power. In 1947 I was taken with such severe pain in my legs and feet that I collapsed one morning. My daughter, who was not a student of Christian Science, was so overcome with fear that without my knowledge she called a doctor. He diagnosed the case as neuritis with possible dislocation of the bones and arranged for me to be taken to the hospital for X-ray pictures. The first night there I was stricken with paralysis of the nerves, so I was kept in the hospital. I clung steadfastly to "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) and to other passages in the textbook which I knew by heart, such as the passage on page 228: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God."
