My first testimony appeared in...

My first testimony appeared in the Sentinel of October 19, 1935, but I should like to share another helpful experience. While dressing for dinner at one time my mother called me and said: "See this large mole. When it is hot weather, as it is now, the friction of my clothing on this mole is most distressing. I have had it since I was about fourteen."

I answered, "There is no imperfection in Mind." She replied, "No, there is no flaw in Spirit." I thought no more about the matter until the next day about the same time, when she called me rather excitedly and said that the condition appeared to be growing malignant. Again we declared God's perfection, and again the subject was dismissed. The next day the mole fell off. We were impressed with this mental surgery, for we realized that a basic understanding of perfect God and of man in His image and likeness, which we had gained in Christian Science, had brought freedom from discord.

I should also like to tell of an experience of becoming free from self-consciousness in playing the piano after a lapse of thirty years. I had enjoyed the study of music so much in childhood that my mother had frequently locked the piano so I would study other subjects as well. Later I enjoyed the study of harmony and composition and taught music for four years, yet playing in public was always an intense ordeal. Sensitiveness and self-consciousness interfered with the use of my talent after I had proved my ability to play.
