DAY OF THE LORD
Joy sings through the song of the Psalmist (Ps. 118:24): "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." We can rejoice every day because it is the day of the Lord, wherein we can watch God's work unfold and feel the warmth and glory of His countenance.
Below the silver trumpets in Israel and proclaim a jubilee of liberation from sin, sickness, and death. The call is for greater charity, mercy, purity, and peace. It is a summons to rise up and, arrayed in the Urim and Thummim of holiness and purification, serve mankind.
A Sabbath day, like a year of jubilee, signifies rest in Spirit, wherein we realize that the creator has made all in and of Himself and that His work is finished and complete. The day of the Lord reveals God's infinite, omnipresent love and man's spiritual completeness. We serve God daily by our deeds. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 40), "It is sad that the phrase divine service has come so generally to mean public worship instead of daily deeds."
