LEARNING TO ACCEPT THE SPIRITUAL

It is stated in the very beginning of the Bible (Gen. 1:27), "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him," and (verse 31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

One may ask, "How can I reconcile that which is 'very good' to the conditions of my everyday living which seem to include a great deal that is undesirable and discordant?" Christian Science answers that the good and the seeming evil cannot be reconciled any more than can light and darkness. It holds absolutely to the inspired proposition that good alone is true, God created and God-maintained, and that the appearance of evil in all its phases is wholly false. However revolutionary or transcendental it may seem to a beginner, this glorious fact is being proved scientifically true by the innumerable healings occurring daily in the lives of Christian Scientists.

Most of us have accepted without question the prevailing belief that man has a material body, that he lives on a material earth, and that material things are all-important to him. We have been taught from babyhood that these evidences of the senses are true. And yet there is but one God; and in order to be God, He must be infinite Spirit and wholly good. And to be infinite, He must be everywhere and all-inclusive, the only cause and creator. Well does Paul say (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being."
