With all my heart I give thanks to God for my healing through Christian Science of abdominal cancer. When I believed that I should soon have to leave forever our five small children, I began to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Although at the time I could scarcely understand anything of what I was reading, I felt that it was the only way in which I could get relief. But I could hardly believe that it could fully restore me to health. I sat or lay helpless and hopeless, troubled with excruciating pain, while my husband and my mother did the housework and took care of the children.

I shall never forget my deep gratitude when, after I had been taken for my first visit to a Christian Science practitioner, I found that the pain had suddenly disappeared. I sobbed for joy, because I knew that despite my initial skepticism I had received a healing.

I was able gradually to take over again my regular housework and the care of my family. This seemed incredible to my relatives and neighbors, who had known me as a completely helpless person given up by well-known physicians and having only a short time to live. When they saw this great demonstration of healing many of them turned to Christian Science. Through the study of the Bible and our textbook and through the help of the practitioner I came step by step out of darkness into light, out of slavery into freedom, out of the shadow of death into the joy of living.
