In 1932 I opened the doors of my home to a lad who had been left without a home or parents. Due to an accident, his leg had been in a cast for three months, after which he was informed by the surgeon that he would always be lame because the kneecap was fractured and could not be healed. Since there was no knee action, he had to drag the stiff leg. He was unable to take part in athletics and many other school activities.

When he arrived in our home I talked to him about Christian Science and what it would do for him, and I placed him in the Sunday School, where he was taught spiritual truths. Each day we read from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and talked about these truths. I realized that he was actually God's perfect child and reflected the perfect activity of the one Mind. The healing of the lame man "at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful" (Acts 3:2) was a source of much inspiration to me.

One morning several weeks later, while I was working in the kitchen, the lad came running to me crying, "I crawled under the bed." When I finally quieted him, he told me that one of his shoes had been under the bed and that he had bent his leg to crawl after it. When he had risen to his feet he realized that he had bent his knee. He was healed, and thereafter was able to move the leg as freely as the other. In a short time this leg, which was slightly longer, resumed its right length, and the knee became as normal as the other. We thanked God.
