My early religious training included . . .

My early religious training included an extensive study of Bible history, a good deal of Bible reading, and listening to Sunday sermons based generally on quotations from the Bible. It was not until I became interested in Christian Science, however, that I really understood the Bible in its spiritual import. I am most grateful to the dear friend who invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and who later became my wife. There I recognized that I had ignorantly worshiped the unknown God, referred to by the Apostle Paul (Acts 17:23). I know now the true God, of whom Paul said (verse 28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being."

For the protection and guidance Christian Science has given me in many experiences, I am truly thankful. I am even more grateful for the peace of God that comes through the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and that leads us to the right thinking, which enables us to meet our problems with courage and strength. It is by understanding and acknowledging the presence and power of God and his Christ that we obtain dominion over sickness and sin.

With the aid of loving practitioners lack has been overcome, and influenza and many other ailments have been healed. Following several sleepless nights when I was suffering from pleurisy, I requested a practitioner to come to my bedside, as I could not move without great pain. The practitioner lovingly counseled me to leave all to God. I consented and in a short time went to sleep. Several hours later I awoke completely healed and was able to join my family at the dinner table. At another time I was healed instantaneously of a long-standing habit of smoking when I expressed my willingness to be healed.
