UNFALLEN MAN

The man of God's creating has never fallen physically, mentally, or morally. He could not fall, because he exists in the eternal Mind, or Principle, which is God. Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 258), "Never born and never dying, it were impossible for man, under the government of God in eternal Science, to fall from his high estate."

A sharp distinction is drawn in Christian Science between God's man and a mortal material sense of existence, which is not man as he is known to his Maker. The perfect Mind is expressed in perfect man. The Psalmist said (Ps. 37:37), "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace." This text clearly indicates our need to keep our spiritual understanding of man intact.

Our Master gave a similar injunction when he said (Matt. 5: 48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." The simplicity of Christian Science lies in the fact that it teaches the oneness and wholeness and allness of God, good, the oneness of Christ, and the scientific unity in which man exists as God's reflection.
