VICTORY

On page 380 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Truth is always the victor." This verity shows clearly that victory belongs to God, Truth; it is not the result of the human striving of men and nations. Victory characterizes the very nature and essence of God, and this victory evidences God's supremacy, unfolding and imparting His eternal peace and perfection to man, His idea. Spiritual victory indicates the absolute, eternal, and present triumph of good, and the certain success of all that is like God, good. What is more unassailable than the Principle of all creation and its law of Love? Divine Love knows no defeat; it remains forever the same, unfolding light and harmony to man and the universe. Nothing can war with Love and its idea, man, for Love cannot be touched by the fear and hatred which make up war and strife.

Many are the examples throughout all time of mankind's deliverance from evil through knowing these truths of God's reality and supremacy. Joshua's little army triumphed at Jericho; David was saved from the army of Saul; and Daniel was not touched in the den of lions. Today Christian Scientists hold to the truth and peace of God, well knowing that the darkest mortal hour may be Truth's glorious opportunity, in which the human heart reaches out for God, beholds the eternal laws and energies of universal Love, and cries, "Abba, Father."

This awakened spiritual sense discerns that victory is Truth's, and the one real army—the spiritual thoughts and angels of God—is forever triumphant. This army of the Lord presents the unfoldment of divine perfection. As men accept and rejoice in this unfolding of the divine perfection, the carnal mind gives up its false claims and evils. Spiritual understanding rests victoriously in the all-presence and all-power of God, on the side of divine Science, in perfect peace. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee," writes Isaiah (26:3).
