Christian Science has been my...
Christian Science has been my only reliance since I first learned of it about forty years ago. It has been thoroughly dependable in every need, healing every discomfort and illness, overcoming every sorrow and discouragement, and best of all satisfying my yearning for a better understanding of God and the reason for existence.
My first visit to a Christian Science practitioner was made merely to inquire upon what grounds this Science based its teachings and its claim of power to heal. I realized that if what the practitioner said was true, and I had to admit that it was logical, then drugs and other material means of healing were powerless. Upon returning home I immediately discarded all such remedies, including those which I had kept on hand for chronic constipation of years' standing, and never since then have I experienced that difficulty. A loved one who accompanied me on this first visit to a practitioner was healed of chronic indigestion during that visit and never again had even a suggestion of the condition.
Of the many healings I have had since that time, I wish to bear testimony to one. An automobile in which I was riding went over a high cliff. As the car dropped through space I felt an assuring sense of God's presence, power, and love. Much fear was banished by the thought that Life is God. Although I experienced broken bones and periods of unconsciousness, during each returning moment of consciousness my thought was filled with helpful statements from the Christian Science textbooks, the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as from Mrs. Eddy's other writings. Because of the gentleness and kindness manifested by those about me, I felt that I truly realized the meaning of these words from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 64): "The loveliness of Love is all around." The love of God was outstanding in my thought.
