My family became interested in...
My family became interested in Christian Science when I was a child; so I had the blessing of instruction in a Christian Science Sunday School. The first physical healing I recall was that of a serious case of typhoid fever. This healing occurred while I was in high school. Twice it appeared that I might pass on, but the consecrated work of a practitioner, together with the loving support of a Christian Science nurse, overcame the suggestion that I was dying. During the experience I was never aware of any sense of fear in the home, never lost contact with the family affairs, was never delirious, and needed no period to convalesce.
However, I did not begin to study Christian Science earnestly until after the development of an ailment which was diagnosed as an inflamed and shrunken bladder. I was a slave to the condition for an extended time. The healing began after I obediently accepted an appointment as librarian in a Christian Science Reading Room at what I felt was a difficult financial sacrifice. I knew that I was needed and recognized that the invitation to serve was an opportunity for spiritual progress.
During the time that I served there the fear and pain lessened, and my expanding thought resulted in the shrunken organ expanding to its normal size. One day I realized that I was free.
