What is more inspiring than the joy of expressing gratitude for healing in Christian Science! One morning a number of years ago I was stricken helpless and began to lose consciousness. I immediately declared aloud, "Life is God, and He is my Life." My mind became clear, and I managed to reach the bed; but I was in severe pain and suffered for several days.

Christian Science treatment was requested, and I tried to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which was left open by my side. It seemed as unfamiliar as though I had never read it before. The argument came that I did not know a word of truth; but I reversed this argument, declaring that I not only knew the truth, but loved it as the Word of God.

Having learned in Christian Science that disease is mental, the outcome of discordant thoughts, I was not alarmed by the physical condition. It made me aware that I had metaphysical work to do and that this experience was a call to action which I had long neglected, the result of a series of errors which I had allowed to accumulate. The letter of Christian Science had been easily attained; now I had to be obedient to the moral and spiritual demands of its teachings. Many petty and miserable traits of character, including pride and false sentiment, had to be faced.
