I came to Christian Science at a...

I came to Christian Science at a time when the government office where I was employed in Washington, District of Columbia, was undergoing a great change. The prevailing thought was to replace all the clerks, and this intention caused much anxiety and concern.

At that time a Christian Science lecturer gave a noonday lecture in a nearby theater. I went to learn something of this Science and of the way in which it was connected with Christianity. I belonged to no church; but I felt the need of something more than I had, although I had attended an orthodox Sunday School as a child and knew most of the Bible stories, as well as a good deal of the history of the Bible.

The lecture held my interest from beginning to end. For the first time I gleaned the meaning of Soul. There was a Christian Science Reading Room one block from the theater, and there I secured Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After reading it through I read all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings. This brought about a harmonious adjustment of the business situation so that all concerned were blessed.
