TWO OR THREE TOGETHER

Christ Jesus was speaking of the strength that comes through spiritual unity when he said (Matt. 18:19, 20): "If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

The gathering together of Christian peoples through prayer and constructive action to seek of the Father freedom from war merits the reward of lasting peace. The Christ, God's ideal Son, is in the midst of these seekers, and the forces of evil that silently or openly oppose Christian unity need to be exposed for what they are and then silenced. Because Christian Science has appeared to mankind, the time has come for the destruction of the "wolf [that] scattereth the sheep" (John 10:12).

Upon the Christian Scientist devolves the task of detecting and casting out by metaphysical means the silent mental forces that would separate or even set against each other nations which share the fundamentals of Christianity—one divine Father and one universal brotherhood of man. The duty of the Christian Scientist is particularly demanding because he has learned to distinguish between divine Mind, God, and suppositional mortal mind, in which contentions and prejudices, as well as apathy and inertia, originate. He knows the reality of good and the absolute nothingness, the nonexistence, of evil, and he knows how to prove what he understands.
