From my infancy until I began...

From my infancy until I began the study of Christian Science more than thirty-two years ago the winter seasons were periods of misery for me because of tonsillitis, quinsy, diphtheria, and streptococcic throat. After two operations on my throat the specialist said to me: "I don't know what to do with you. Perhaps you had better have your teeth X-rayed." I did so and was given the verdict, "All your teeth must come out." An acquaintance recommended that I see another specialist, which I did. This man, however, said, "No, your teeth are all right." I still have my teeth.

I was much prejudiced toward what I thought Christian Science to be, although I had seen a friend healed of tuberculosis through Christian Science. This friend was so fully healed that she could be out in inclement weather with no ill effects, and I had to admit to myself that she had something I did not have. I went to this friend and with all the humility I could call forth told her I was willing to try what she had. She helped me to begin the study of Science and recommended that I select a practitioner, which I did. At that time I was teaching Sunday School in an orthodox church. My surprise and relief were great when I discovered that the practitioner's Bible was just like mine, the King James Version. This proved to me that it is only ignorance, false pride, and a misapprehension of Christian Science which keep many from enjoying its blessings.

In the course of five weeks I was completely free from throat ailments and have been so all these years. Now I enjoy all the seasons and can appreciate a little of what John meant when he said of his vision on Patmos (Rev. 21:1), "I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away."
