SECURITY

One of the greatest contributions that Mary Baker Eddy has brought to the modern world through Christian Science is the true sense of security, based on her discovery that all is Mind, that Mind is substance and matter unreal and illusory. Even if the whole material world were reduced to ashes, or less than ashes, each of us would still be living in Mind as its immortal idea; not one jot or one tittle of the truth would be lost, not even the tiniest manifestation of Life obliterated. All that we love would still be included in our true individual consciousness as indestructible ideas. The trees, the flowers, the birds—all nature in its real being—would be dearer and more beautiful to us when lost as objects of sense and found as ideas of Soul.

Our growing apprehension of spiritual Truth comes so gradually that we do not notice, until we look back on the past, how far we have progressed from a material sense of existence to the spiritual. The criterion of our progress is found in the healings and proofs of protection, which are like signals along the way, showing that we have passed in some degree from the sensual to the spiritual.

We read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 267), "Every object in material thought will be destroyed, but the spiritual idea, whose substance is in Mind, is eternal." If we give up the material thought, then there will be for us no destruction. It is possible to attain a sense of security and a consciousness utterly devoid of fear, in the midst of the greatest physical dangers, through habitually adhering to the facts of true being.
