MAN THE REFLECTION OF DIVINE LAW

Law and the operation of law signify to the thinker that there is a supreme governing authority able to enforce and fulfill its omnipotent purpose. Without the power of enforcement, law loses its character and distinction as law.

Spiritual sense awakens the individual to recognize the reality and existence of divine law and enables him through scientific understanding to bring his life and all that he says and does into conformity with that law. Like the Psalmist, he declares (Ps. 119:97), "O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day."

Christian Science teaches that God is the divine Principle of the universe, governing in harmony and order every detail and idea that expresses Him. Every manifestation of divine Principle moves and acts in accordance with Mind's supreme ordinance. As one considers and meditates on the law of God, he gains an increasing realization of the inevitability of good. He sees that the law of good is ever operative and always in evidence, even in human experience, and can never be set aside or abrogated. Even contemplation of the visible universe must have led the poet Alexander Pope to declare that "order is heaven's first law." Without that governing authority, which is invisible to the material senses, there would be chaos. It therefore gives one spiritual conviction to know that God's law is inevitable, inexorable, inescapable, and infallible.
