"I call to remembrance my song...
"I call to remembrance my song in the night" (Ps. 77:6). Christian Science is increasing my understanding of God as divine Truth, Life, and Love. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is daily interpreting the Bible to me in the language of Spirit. Mrs. Eddy's other writings, especially the Manual of The Mother Church, have also been an invaluable guide through many trying experiences. For these reasons I like to think of Christian Science as a "song in the night."
I write this testimony with particular reference to the power of the Word expressed in the Christian Science Hymnal. Some time ago a member of my family attended with me a service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Both of us were seeking supply necessary for professional activity. The inspirational singing of the hymn beginning with the words, "Trust the Eternal" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 359), dissolved our fears. The line, "Trust on and wait, the daystar yet shall gleam," assured us of God's tender, protective care. Shortly thereafter a relative's resentment toward our plan of activity yielded to loving co-operation, and the whole problem worked out satisfactorily for us in every way.
On another occasion in a Wednesday evening meeting I was healed of a difficulty which had tempted me not to go to church. The suggestion had been that I would not be able to enjoy the testimonies or to receive the healing message. This argument I constantly denied, holding to the truth that services in Churches of Christ, Scientist, are designed to heal and that nothing can oppose God's power to maintain His purpose. I was able to attend the service, but the discomfort persisted until the last hymn was being sung. Then there was a complete release, and I went home free and happy.
