FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Reporting Steps of Progress

Nigeria

The Aba group continues to go forward. During this Committee's visit to the group last April, I was not surprised to observe many new members who were hungering for the truth. These include two clergymen who attended the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. One of them said to me after the close of a Wednesday meeting, "If all ministers of religion could study Christian Science, they would not only become powerful preachers of the 'Word,' but also healers as Christian Scientists." The other, who visited me sometime afterwards, remarked: "What I have heard and seen of Christian Science left no doubt in my mind about the efficacy of Christian Science treatment, and this has convinced me of the truth of this religion. I am resigning my appointment, as it is my desire to pursue the knowledge of Christian Science."

Two days prior to my departure from Aba, he came to tell me that he had submitted his resignation. He asked for a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which he has since received. He is also being supplied with Christian Science periodicals. He pressed for my return to Aba permanently; but I explained to him the importance of always looking to Principle rather than personality if he would achieve his ends in Christian Science, and recommended to him the study of the Bible and the textbook along with the Bible Lessons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly.
