In gratitude for the protection...

In gratitude for the protection and ever-presence of God, I wish to give this testimony.

A few years ago I took up flying. I was putting in my hours of solo flight, and when ready for my crosscountry flight I was told that I would have to fly over a hundred miles alone and make three stops en route in order to be qualified for my flight test, which I must pass before receiving my pilot's license. This requirement seemed almost impossible for me to fill, since I had not been more than a few miles away from the airport alone. As I was most desirous of receiving my license, however, I decided that I would more earnestly study and apply the truths of Christian Science. This I did, and after making the necessary arrangements I began the cross-country flight.

As I left the airport I recalled a Bible verse that had appeared in one of the religious articles in The Christian Science Monitor a short time previously: "In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" (Isa. 30:15). Poor visibility made it necessary for me to use my compass in locating the first landing field and added to the hazard of the landing. However, as I proceeded, the haze lifted and a beautiful day appeared, the first in some time. The next two landings were easily but carefully made, the last one being one hundred and thirty-five miles from the point of departure. I flew at a height of four thousand feet during this flight, although I had not previously been alone when flying over two thousand feet.
