Christian Science came to my attention when a young friend contracted tuberculosis and was given up by the doctors. There was no Christian Science church or practitioner near, but a man who knew something about this Science had a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. He took it to my friend's family, called their attention to the testimonies in the back of it, and told them that the reading of the book could heal their son. The sister of my sick friend read Science and Health day and night to her brother. In less than six weeks he was entirely healed.

Ten years later I became ill with a chronic throat trouble, from which three doctors said there was no hope of my recovering. I was discouraged and despondent. At that time a man frequently came into my father's store and talked to my sister about Christian Science, leaving a Sentinel for her to read. Remembering my young friend's experience with this Science, I began to read the Sentinels.

Then my wife and I started to attend a Christian Science Society, where a few earnest workers gave us encouragement, hope, and love. We began the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and read other authorized literature. One day we went to our well-filled medicine cabinet and put everything in it into a bushel basket, which we emptied into the trash can. That was more than thirty-five years ago. We have raised two children since then and have never been tempted to turn to material remedies for help for them or for ourselves. I do not remember when I was completely healed, but joy and peace have been in our home from the beginning of our study of Christian Science.
