"THE SWEET SONG OF SILVER-THROATED SINGERS"

What a great opportunity lies in the appointive position of soloist in a Church of Christ, Scientist! One who has been chosen to serve in this capacity can rejoice in the knowledge that in this position, provided for in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, he may fulfill the divine demands of Soul.

To the singer who is a consecrated Christian Scientist the office of soloist in our church services represents the highest musical position to which a singer can aspire. Here he needs to rise above the concept of music as mere entertainment or amusement. If his musical performance is based on his understanding of the perfection of God and of man as His likeness, the message of the music he sings can awaken thought, comfort the sorrowing, set at rest the heavy-laden, and above all else exemplify the healing Christ.

It is the purpose of every part of the church service to instruct the unenlightened, to awaken and elevate the sinner, to heal and to bless all who come to partake of the heavenly manna, God's Word. Music which sings of God's Word can reach each member of the congregation; and if the soloist's thought is sincere and characterized by integrity, spiritual understanding, love, beauty, and purity, the solo will result in regeneration and healing, to the glorification of God.
